After nearly four hours of watching their fellow students stumble to spell complex words, like “malapropos” and “voyageur,” Linda Kalna and Daniel Hu were the last ones standing at the annual North Jersey Spelling Bee on Tuesday night.
But Kalna, a sixth-grade student at Hasbrouck Heights Middle School, needed to conquer one last word before securing her title as champion. As she correctly pieced the letters together in “neuston,” she her sealed her victory.
Congratulations to a great student in Hasbrouck Heights Middle School!
