FROM HASBROUCK HEIGHTS PATCH: Remaining curb and sidewalk work to a two-block section of the Boulevard is expected to take about one more week until this stage of the streetscape project is complete.
Borough Administrator Mike Kronyak said Monday all the sidewalks had been completed over the past few weeks. Work is now being done to lay in the brick pavers.
The project to install new sidewalks and pavers to the area of the Boulevard from Jefferson up to Hamilton began about three weeks ago and it was expected it would take about four weeks for the sidewalk construction.
The project also involves putting in new lighting and planting new trees which will be the next steps after the concrete construction is done, Kronyak said. The goal is to have the project completed before the new school year begins, he added.
This project represents phases three and four of an ongoing project. Phases one and two – Washington to Kipp to Jefferson – were done about two years ago. The borough pays for the project through grants received from the state Department of Transportation. The borough has been awarded five grants to date.
Four which have been used for construction, and a fifth which will fund construction to the section of the Boulevard from Hamilton to Walter. The borough hopes to apply for a grant for the sixth phase of the project – Walter to Division.
The borough should learn later this month whether the state is accepting grant applications, Kronyak said.
