Hasbrouck Heights NJ:  The Hasbrouck Heights Police Department assisted other police departments around the country in making a birthday special for a Rhode Island boy who has leukemia.

Tyler Seddon is a 6-year-old boy in Rhode Island who is battling leukemia for the second time in three years.  Tyler Seddon is a 6-year-old boy in Rhode Island who is battling leukemia for the second time in three years,  Hasbrouck Heights Police Officer Brian Donohue said.

His 7th birthday was on March 6 and when he was asked what he wanted for his birthday, he asked for birthday cards from his heroes, police officers and firefighters.  Donohue said he read about Seddon’s birthday wish on a law enforcement only page, where officers were  wishing him a happy birthday. He said he Googled his name and saw that he wanted birthday cards from his heroes for his birthday.  “Once I told the other guys in the department they were more than willing to participate,” Donohue said.

All 30 members of the force and the police secretary signed a birthday card for Seddon that was sent out in the mail onMarch 3. Donohue said some officers also included baseball cards and they sent him a police patch.  The support from the law enforcement community has been overwhelming with the post office in Seddon’s hometown having to rent a 7-ton truck to deliver the packages, cards and other items
that have been received for Seddon, according to Donohue.  Donohue said the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department is very community oriented and helps  raise money for residents and the Special Olympics.
“Any good cause we find, especially involving children, the guys step up to the plate and bring it
up,” he said. “The officers are more than willing to jump in for any good cause.”
